Pearl Taylor, candidate for IPS School Board District 5

“I am running to help create the changes our students need to succeed in school and in life.”

Experience rooted in education, family, and community.

Pearl understands public education from more than one perspective: as a former IPS student, a mother, an educator, and an advocate. Her work with children since 2013 has allowed her to see both the strengths of our schools and the challenges facing students, families, and educators.

She has completed reading-education programs through Marian University and the Freedom Readers Program and furthered her early education studies through Butler University. Pearl believes the people closest to students must have a meaningful voice in the decisions that shape their schools.

Strong foundations. Real support. Equal opportunity.

Pearl’s platform connects academic success with student wellness and meaningful partnership with families.

01

Student Success & Equal Opportunities

Every student deserves access to the support, programs, and opportunities that help them succeed in school and in life—regardless of race, background, or ZIP code.

Pearl’s vision includes Project Dream Believers, an after-school enrichment initiative designed to help students explore their interests, build confidence, and discover new possibilities.

02

Student Wellness Through Counselor Check-Ins

Students learn best when they feel safe, supported, and seen. Pearl supports regular counselor check-ins and stronger wellness resources for students and educators.

Mental and emotional wellness should be treated as an essential part of student success, not an afterthought.

03

Earlier Academic Intervention & Communication

Families should know when a child begins to struggle—not after the student has fallen far behind. Pearl supports early assessment, timely intervention, and clear family communication.

Literacy and mathematics must remain strong foundations while students continue receiving a complete, well-rounded education.

Listening is only the beginning. Follow-through matters.

If elected, Pearl will remain visible and accessible throughout District 5—not only during election season. She will visit schools, attend parent and community meetings, and create ways for students, educators, staff, and families to communicate directly with her.

Community feedback will be considered alongside student outcomes, financial information, legal responsibilities, and the district’s long-term needs. Pearl will explain how community input shaped her position and provide clear reasons for difficult decisions.
